It appears microtransactions won’t be appearing in Dark Souls II according to the game’s producer Takeshi Miyazoe.
Here’s what Miyazoe had to say on the subject during an interview with Edge:
Yeah, right! Not yet, and not for a while I think. It’s one of our bigger IPs right now, but it’s a new IP, so I think it’s too young to go free-to-play. And with Dark Souls I think it would be hard to monetise in that way. Pay per death? That would be terrible. From Software especially don’t want to allow players to pay for an advantage.
He also went on to say that Dark Souls II is unlikely to have additional DLC too. He wants gamers to pay for a full experience on day one. If you’re planning on buying Dark Souls II next year, be happy that you’re getting the whole game.
This is a practice other game publishers/developers should follow. There’s been way too many microtransactions and DLC added to so many games it seems as if you’re not paying for a full game anymore…
