Manannan is loosely connected with salmon, due to the appearance of five salmon in well that appeared on Manannan's Isle in the myth involving King Cormac. From the well five streams flow, and over which there are nine purple hazel trees that drop their nuts for the salmon to eat.
Manannan tells Cormac: "And the well you saw is the Well of Knowledge, and the streams are the five streams through which all knowledge goes. And no one will have knowledge who does not drink a draught out of the well itself or out of the streams. And the people of many arts are those who drink from them all."
